A Quick Check Conference is a brief, one-minute conference that helps teachers and students become comfortable with the practice of conferring. It gives teachers an opportunity to briefly connect with students, gather a few pieces of information, and begin recording observations in a conferring notebook or Quick Check form.

These conferences are most common during the first few weeks of conferring and continue throughout the year as a quick way to check in with students. 

There are three common types of Quick Checks we introduce in this lesson. Start with one and slowly incorporate the other two into your teaching practice.

1. Purpose Check: Check that students know what they are working toward during independent practice.
2. Independent Reading Check: Gather a few pieces of information about a student's reading.
3. General Check-In: Briefly connect with the student about their work.
