If you are a frequent user of an iPhone or iPad in your classroom, you may be interested in this application that makes taking running records a breeze! The Running Records Calculator app includes not only a standard running record calculator and stopwatch but also audio recording playback. Flagging lets you refer to the audio of difficult sections of the reading for more accurate scoring, and pushing a button gives you students' reading rates, percentages of accuracy, and self-correction ratios. The app is available on iTunes.
We tried it out on some third graders and loved that we could let them hear themselves immediately after they read, reinforcing the teaching and goal setting we wanted to focus on.
